Five Days for Freedom is an awareness campaign for 5 different issues on 5 different days.
From April 16th - 20th, with the help of other councils in the school, MAC will be holding different events on each day to fight for freedom.
100% of donations will go towards this year's initiative of building a school in Kenya.
"MAC Loves Kenya" wristbands will be on sale again, in the cafeteria, throughout the week.
Day 1: Freedom from Racism/Stereotypes
No one should be judged and put down because of who they are.
Thanks to MACC for holding a poster event where students stamped their handprints in the name of fighting against racism and stereotyping.

Also, many thanks to ESP for also holding a poster event that involved students writing a racist or stereotypical comment that have been used on them before.
Day 2: Freedom to Play
Everybody should have the right to play, but sadly, many children around the world have no idea what it's like to have fun.
Thanks to Athletic Council for holding a dodgeball tournament in the gym.
Thanks to Music Council for holding a musical chairs game with a live jazz band in the cafeteria and
thanks to SAC for their live game of Draw Something.

Day 3: Freedom from Poverty

We live in Canada. Lucky us. We have no idea what it's like to search for food with our lives on the line, walk kilometres for a bucket of water, or beg for a chance to have an education. What would it be like in someone else's shoes?
Thanks to GEMS for holding a 'Put Yourself in Someone Else's Shoes' race in the cafeteria wearing high heels.
Day 4: Freedom from Thirst
It takes us less than 10 seconds to get clean drinking water from the tap while in many countries, women must travel miles to the nearest river or lake to carry dirty, infected water back home for their daily use.
Thanks to MEAC for their water chugging event that teaches us to treasure the water we take for granted.
Day 5: Freedom from Exploitation
We shop all the time - we buy food, clothing, shoes, anything we need. But have we ever taken the time to think about where those products come from? Thousands of hardworking people on the other side of the world provide these things for us. However, their earnings total up to next to nothing.
Mac In Action will be selling fair-trade Starbucks coffee in the cafeteria. |
